Easter Wildlife Fun at Kilbroney Park
This Easter holiday, the Ulster Wildlife Trust and Newry & Mourne District Council are offering a host of egg-citing wildlife activities for all the family at Kilbroney Park, just outside Rostrevor.
On Saturday, 22nd March, come and celebrate World Water Day on an Easter scavenger hunt and kick sample along the river – finding Easter eggs on the way and searching for minibeasts that lurk in the water.Led by qualified guides, find out why water quality is so important to river wildlife and what you can do help keep our rivers healthy. This event will run from 2.00pm – 4.00pm and booking is essential. FULLY BOOKED. There is more Easter wildlife fun on Tuesday, 25th March with guided nature trails around the park leaving at 11am, 1pm and 3pm – watch-out for an Easter bunny or some of the forest’s more elusive animals, such as the pine martin or red squirrel! There will also be a marquee with information on wildlife gardening and plenty of hands-on activities on offer from 10.30am - 4.30pm to keep the children occupied, with crafts, pond games, a minibeast hotel, and the chance to create a piece of wildlife art to take home. Cathy Bradshaw, Outreach & Learning Manager with the Ulster Wildlife Trust said: “Easter is a brilliant time for wildlife activities at Kilbroney, there are loads of fun Easter crafts for children to create and outdoors the park is begging to burst with life. River kick sampling and bug hunting are particularly fun at this time of year with lots of interesting animals emerging. All activities are suitable for children of all ages, and everyone is encouraged to come along, get involved and have a go - it promises to be a memorable Easter for all the family.” Kilbroney Park is located outside the village of Rostrevor on the A2, and is mid-way between Newry and Kilkeel. For further information, please contact Ulster Wildlife Trust on (028) 4483 0282 during office hours. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Both events are free of charge, though donations are very welcome.
