Moyola Waterfoot nature reserve on the shore of Lough Neagh. It is small elongated reserve which runs alongside the River Moyola for the last few hundred metres before it enters Lough Neagh. At the end of the walk there is a bird hide which is over looks the Lough. This site is rich in biodiversity and forms part of the Lough Neagh / Lough Beg Area of Special Scientifc Interest (ASSI), Special Protection Area (SPA), and the Lough Neagh Ramsar.
The Ulster Wildlife Trust is working in partnership with the Ballymaguigan Community Group to manage the site for its range of features, including the habitats for Dyschirius obscurus (Ground Beetle) which is found along the sandy shore at the Moyola Waterfoot.
Access: 24/7 public access to nature reserve with disability access, standard footpaths, fishing stands, seating areas and bird hide.
Getting There: When coming from Belfast after the Toome bypass ends take right down the Blackpark Rd, at the end of this road take a left onto the Creagh Rd and then the next right on the B18 Aughrim Road to Ballyronan. Follow the signs towards Ballyronan and you will be on the Ballyronan Road. On the first crossroads on this road take a left down Waterfoot Road. Continue along this road to the end where you will find the entrance to the nature reserve.
Look out for: Water rail, mallards, otter, snipe
