Glenarm

Glenarm RiverSituated in the picturesque Glens of Antrim, this beautiful reserve is part of the Glenarm Estate. Oak and hazel coppice woodland with sunny glades, parkland areas and traditionally managed pasture flank the winding Glenarm River. The woodland is home to majestic oaks and a fabulous array of wildflowers and fungi.

Access: the nature reserve is on a working estate and therefore the main gates are not always open. There are also pheasant shoots on the estate from Oct-Mar, so it is best to phone the Ulster Wildlife Trust headquarters before making a trip to the reserve. This nature reserve is open to UWT members only.

Getting There: From Belfast/Larne direction take the A2 (coast road) until you reach Glenarm Village, take a right at the mini roundabout, as you enter the village, along Bridge street. Then turn left as the road forks onto the B97, take the next left staying on the B97, continue along this road for approximately half a mile then turn into entrance to the Glenarm Estate which is on the left hand side. Follow the main lane for approximately another mile; until you come to a gate with the Ulster Wildlife Trust sign, this is the entrance to the nature reserve.

Look out for: wild garlic (ramsons), bluebell,Irish Bluebells weird and wonderful fungi, red squirrel.
