Key Species Project

Barn Owl

The Trust is pleased to be embarking on the three year ‘Key Species Action Project’ funded by Environment & Heritage Service. The project aims to ensure successful delivery of biodiversity action for the recovery of a range of key species across Northern Ireland.

The species that the project will focus upon are –

  • wood cranesbill
  • Irish hare
  • meadow cranesbill
  • harbour porpoise
  • river water crowfoot
  • basking shark
  • small cow wheat
  • common skate
  • blue eyed grass
  • barn owl
  • red squirrel
  • otter

Wood CranesbillThese species have been prioritised as requiring specific action as part of the Northern Ireland Biodiversity Strategy (NIBS). The project aims to achieve a high level of action for the conservation of these species through co-ordination, inspiration and co-operation with a large range of stakeholders.
