Breathing Places Schools - Summer Term
Make a Splash for Nature
The summer term’s ‘Do One Thing’ activity focuses on creating a series of mini-water habitats in your school grounds such as a mini-pond and bog garden.
All that you need to get started can be downloaded from the BBC website. The Teacher’s Notes will show you how to create and maintain these habitats and the types of creatures that they may choose to inhabit them and why.
Get advice on which aquatic plants to grow, the effects of summer and winter on water habitats, as well as tips on pond-dipping. There is also information on water use, water saving and gathering, including a downloadable worksheet on water butts
Wildlife Ponds Guide
Check out our guide on 'Wildlife Ponds' to help you get more from your 'Do One Thing' activity this term. It is packed with hints and tips on creating the perfect pond to attract wildlife - whatever space you have - and how to look after it.
