Breathing Places Schools - Spring Term
Wildlife Homes
The spring term 2009 'Do One Thing' activity is 'Wildlife Homes' and the main focus will be on creating a 'Wildlife Wall' for animals to live in. There will also be information and advice available on other homes for wildlife such as bats, bugs and hedgehogs, to mention but a few.
All that you need to get started can be downloaded from the BBC website. The Teacher's notes will help you decide on the most suitable wildlife homes for your school and help you plan the activities. They will also include lots of interesting facts about where different animals set up home, their home range and what they need to find there in order to survive.
Homes for Wildlife Guide
Check out our guide on 'Homes for Wildlife' to help you get more from your 'Do One Thing' activity this term. It is packed with hints and tips on creating homes for wildlife from simple rock piles and log piles to boxes for hedgehogs, birds, bats and bugs.
Even if you don't have much space in your school grounds you can still do your bit for wildlife. Check out our 'No Garden! No Problem!' guide for lots of advice on doing your bit for wildlife in whatever space you have. You could create a 'wildlife wall' with a trellis and some climbing plants or do something really exciting like building an insect hotel. Be creative and have fun - every little action counts!
