BBC Breathing Places is a four year programme to encourage all of us to get outside and enjoy spending time with nature. It was launched in 2005 and already an impressive one million people have been inspired to wise up to local wildlife and Do One Thing for nature.
You don't need a lot of space or time, just get outside with your kids, friends, family or on your own and have fun sharing a space with nature.
Your Breathing Place could be in a field, at your local park, at school, in your garden or hanging outside your window. Once you've chosen your space you need to invite some wildlife over and make it welcome: flowers for bees, seed for birds, nettles for butterflies. To make a difference you only have to Do One Thing. See our Make Space for Nature campaign for ideas of how you can help wildlife in your garden.
As part of the campaign we have a Breathing Places Project Officer funded through the BBC and Aggregate Industries. This person is working with community groups across Northern Ireland to help them to create or enhance their own Breathing Places.
