How We Are Run
We are a NI charity and are membership driven - our support throughout the province makes us one of NI’s leading conservation charities. We depend upon our individual members and supporters who provide income, influence and practical action to ensure the continuance of our work for nature.
A Council elected from our membership governs us and they are responsible for the strategic direction of UWT. Our staff team is made up of core posts in three departments (Nature Conservation, Development, and Corporate Services) which drive the work of the Trust, as well as many project posts where staff deliver distinct projects locally. Volunteers also work with us to help us deliver our wide-ranging work. We aim to be cost-conscious, environmentally responsible and ethical in all our activities. We are part of The Wildlife Trusts UK partnership which is made up of 47 individual Wildlife Trusts. Being part of this partnership means that our impact stretches beyond NI and that we have a strong input on UK-wide nature conservation issues. We strive to base all our work for wildlife on sound knowledge and science. Involving people of all ages and in all communities in our nature conservation work is also very important. An example of this is our preference to work in partnership with others, such as local communities, companies, local and regional government and organisations of many kinds.
